The Competition will consists of three stages.
Stage 1 (with piano):
One 18th century Classical aria (from Bach and Haendel to Mozart inclusive),
One song by Stanisław Moniuszko,
One 19th century Romantic song.
Stage 2 (with piano):
One opera or concert aria from the 19th or the 20th century repertoire,
One 20th century Polish song,
Two songs from any 20th century repertoire.
Stage 3 (with orchestra):
One aria from an opera by Stanisław Moniuszko, or Manru's aria from the II-nd act of "The Manru" by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, or - Roksana's aria from the II-nd act of "The King Roger" by Karol Szymanowski,
One aria from any repertoire, not chosen in previous stage.
Prize Winners Concert:
Performances of the six laureates with orchestral
accompaniment. The announcement of the winners and the presentation of prizes.
We are happy to announce that the "Polish Music Album" (including songs and arias by Polish composers) can be found at any Polish Embassy or Polish Institute, and can also be sent to any individual upon request to the Competition Office.
Should any of the candidates select an unusual or rarely performed aria, the score and orchestral parts must be provided by the candidate.
In Stage 1 maximum time for performance - 15 minutes.
In Stage 2 maximum time for performance - 20 minutes.
Should a candidate exceed the allotted time, the Jury may interrupt the performance. All works should be sung from memory.
Polish songs and arias may be sung in Polish or in the language of the candidate's choice.
The performance order will be decided by public draw, and will remain in effect through the Competition.
During all stages of the Competition sound and/or vision recording may be registered without remuneration to the participants of the Competition.
The recorded material will remain the property of the
Teatr Wielki - National Opera in Warsaw who will retain all rights to the material, including its distribution abroad.
The list of suggested songs by Polish 20th century composers for presentation in Stage 2 of the Competition (scores avaliable in the Competition Office): Grażyna Bacewicz, Tadeusz Baird, Joanna Bruzdowicz, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Mieczysław Karłowicz, Zygmunt Krauze, Witold Lutosławski, Paweł Mykietyn, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Edward Pałłasz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Marta Ptaszyńska, Tadeusz Szeligowski, Karol Szymanowski.
